In June 1987, the Oriole Advocates established the Oriole Advocates
Charitable Foundation, Inc., as a private foundation incorporated in the State of Maryland. The Foundation is tax-exempt under
Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. To this day, the mission of the Foundation is to provide financial assistance
and support for non-profit and charitable organizations, particularly those which encourage and stimulate an interest in baseball.
The Oriole Advocates, the Foundation's parent organization, provided the Foundation's startup money.
The Foundation
considers requests from organizations for the funding of both existing and developing programs throughout the Greater Baltimore
Metropolitan area and beyond. During its existence, the Foundation and parent organization have made grants to over 200 different
organizations totaling more than $500,000.
Grants have been issued for uniforms and equipment, as well as funds for
start-up programs and projects, stadium seating tournament expenses, mentoring programs, baseball clinics, and the training
of coaches and umpires.
Continued fundraising has come from the sale of "First Day Covers" or Postal Cachets that commemorate significant baseball-related events; an annual 5K race at Oriole Park at Camden Yards; and the sale of baseball memorabilia at Fan Fest and area card shows.
In addition,
the Foundation has been the beneficiary of contributions designated for special ongoing projects and activities such as the
Oriole Advocates' Cardboard to Leather® program; the Champion and Challenger Leagues for mentally and physically challenged athletes; and the Hit, Run and Fun League for Baltimore City youth for which the organization
has been the primary sponsor of since its inception.
The Foundation is an all-volunteer group with no paid employees.
All proceeds for fundraising events and contributions go directly to program expenses. All contributions are tax deductible.
Copies of the Foundation's audited tax returns are available for investigation when required by contacting the Foundation
