CARDBOARD TO LEATHER ®
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Since its inception in 1992 C2L TM has grown from shipping 24 boxes of equipment to approximately over 500 boxes of equipment per year. Shipments of equipment have been delivered to Nicaragua, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Bimini, and Belize. Smaller shipments have been delivered to Mexico, and one shipment went to an Indian reservation in South Dakota. To date, approximately 17,000 children ages 5 to 17 have benefited from the equipment donations.
  • Over the same time period the number of recreation councils and little leagues donating equipment has increased from approximately 12 per year to over 50 per year and growing. Equipment donations have been received from all parts of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, and New York.
  • The Baltimore Orioles local minor league teams, Bowie Baysox, Frederick Keys, Delmarva Shorebirds, and Aberdeen Ironbirds have embraced the program and have made very large donations of equipment, hosting collection dates at their respective ballparks.
  • We have received several letters and communications from Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Mexico informing us about the positive impact the donated ball gear has provided to the children. Baseball has afforded them an essential diversion from the prevalent negative influences while also providing hope and inspiration. While not commonplace, we have heard that at least four young ballplayers from Nicaragua who benefited from C2L TM donations are now in the minor league systems of MLB teams.
