ORIOLE ADVOCATES CHALLENGER BASEBALL
Oriole Advocates Challenger Baseball (OACB) is a program of the Charitable Foundation of the Oriole Advocates in collaboration with the Baltimore Orioles. OACB provides assistance to Challenger baseball teams in Maryland, Northern Virginia and Southern Pennsylvania. These teams come from Little League, county recreation programs, Miracle League and local community programs. The mission of the OACB program is to:
- provide children with mental and/or physical challenges an opportunity to enjoy the experience of playing baseball;
- increase awareness of Challenger Programs in order to increase the number of children server by the Challenger Programs;
- provide opportunities for children from different geographical areas to meet and play against others in similar programs;
- provide leaders of Challenger teams a forum for sharing ideas and create new opportunities between programs; and
- assist Challenger teams with support for their programs.
OACB was created in 2010 when we held a single event hosting 100 Challenger players at an Oriole game at Oriole Park. In 2011, our efforts grew to holding 6 events and providing support to programs comprised of 49 teams and 650 players. We continued to increase the program and in 2014 held numerous events supporting programs comprised of 65 teams and over 900 Challenger players. In addition to these events we also assisted with equipment, uniforms and other needs.
The activities of OACB are supported by the volunteer members from the Oriole Advocates Challenger Baseball Committee.
