CHARITABLE FOUNDATION
In June 1987, the Oriole Advocates established the Oriole Advocates Charitable Foundation, Inc. (OACF), as a private foundation incorporated in the State of Maryland. The OACF is a 501 (c) (3) Corporation that promotes the health and well-being of youth in the State of Maryland and across the globe through its support of organizations that promote baseball at all levels for individuals of all abilities.
Since its creation, the OACF has provided funding for uniforms and equipment, as well as funds for start-up programs and projects, stadium seating, tournament expenses, mentoring programs, baseball clinics, and the training of coaches and umpires.
Major projects funded by the OACF include the Oriole Advocates’ Cardboard to Leather (C2L) Program. Since its inception in 1992, the C2L Program has donated over 100 tons of baseball equipment to ball players throughout the world in places such as Afghanistan, Aruba, Belgrade, Belize, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
The OACF also funds the operation of the Oriole Advocates’ Challenger Baseball Program which provides athletes with intellectual and physical disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the experience of playing baseball. For more than a decade, the program has served more than 60 teams and close to 1,000 players throughout the State of Maryland and surrounding areas.
Since 2008, the OACF has been funding scholarships for Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) students participating in the school’s baseball program. Originally started at the Catonsville campus, the program was expanded to include students at the CCBC campuses in Dundalk and Essex. In 2019, the OACF renewed its Agreement with CCBC and made a five-year commitment awarding scholarships to each campus.
In 2018, the OACF created the Don Blum Scholarship at Mount Saint Joseph (MSJ) High School to expand the organization's scholarship program. This scholarship is given to a rising senior at MSJ on the school's varsity baseball team. This scholarship has been named in honor of Don Blum who is a long time member of the Oriole Advocates and graduate of MSJ.
The OACF considers requests from organizations for the funding of both existing and developing programs throughout the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area and beyond. During its existence, the OACF has donated to over 200 different organizations totaling more than $500,000.
Help the Oriole Advocates Charitable Foundation to promote the health and well-being of youth in Maryland and across the globe. With your support, we will provide funding of baseball equipment and uniforms, start-up programs and projects, and training of coaches and umpires.
